Popham, W. J. (2006). Needed: A dose of assessment literacy. Educational Leadership, 63(6), 84- 85.
Popham argues that assessment knowledge is desperately needed so that teachers can effectively deal with key assessment issues prominent in education today. The author maintains that educators need “a relatively small number of commonsense measurement fundamentals” to achieve this understanding (p. 84). Additionally, Popham maintains that assessment-literate teachers must dispense this knowledge to other educators, parents, students, and laypeople to help them all better understand testing results.
